Mike Deal graduated from Appling County Comprehensive High School in 1967 and attended Georgia Southern University to pursue a degree in criminal justice. He graduated with his criminal justice degree in 1971 and was hired as a Police Community Relations Officer at the age of twenty-two. Just six months into the job, Mike’s leadership skills and strong work ethic led him to a position as a uniformed officer. One year later, he was promoted to the detective division.In 1980, Mike Deal became the youngest Police Chief to serve in the state of Georgia at the time.
After serving as Police Chief for fourteen years, Mike took the position of City Manager in 1994 in which he spent twelve years managing and leading the City. After leaving his position of City Manager and serving as County Administrator for five years, Mike returned to the position as City Manager in 2012.
Mike plans to continue to work with all the local agencies, volunteer agencies and local boards to create a unifying relationship that best serves everyone in the community.
Mike is the husband of Suzanne, father to Miki and Chad, and grandfather to Jackson and Greyson.
