Water
Treatment Plant
The City of Jesup has been treating wastewater
since the early fifties. The treatment plant was updated in 1971 and then
updated
again in 1988. The City of Jesup Wastewater treatment
plant is an Extended Aeration Activated Sludge plant with secondary treatment
with drying beds.
After the secondary treatment process, the effluent is disinfected and
pumped 3 miles to the Altamaha River. The wastewater plant is permitted to
pump 2.5 million gallons per day to the river. There are sixteen pumping stations
around
town that pump the wastewater to the treatment plant.
The City of Jesup wastewater plant has won the Gold Award
for five years; the fifth year the plant won the Platinum Award. To earn
this award you compete against your permit requirements, and must not have
any permit violation of the year. To earn the Platinum award you have to
earn the Gold Award for five consecutive years. This program is sponsored
by the Georgia Water and Pollution Control Association to reward the operation
of the water and wastewater plants in the State of Georgia.
Recycling
Center
The
Street Department maintains and operates the Jesup Recycling Center. The center is open 24 hours a day seven days
a week.
