Shirlene Armstrong was elected City Commissioner in November 2015, and began serving her term in January 2016. She is a life-long resident of Jesup, 1970 graduate of Northside High School, past Recording Secretary of the local 787 United Steelworkers Union, and retiree of ITT Rayonier after 39 years.
Mrs. Armstrong attends Bennett Union Missionary Baptist Church where she served as the past President and Treasurer of Progressive Women Auxiliary, and Treasurer of Youth Vision. She currently serves on various ministries including: Photographer of Tape Ministry, Member of Budget Committee, Member of Stewardship Board, and Custodian. She also is currently serving as Treasurer of James E. Johnson Memorial, Member of NAACP Board, Member of Wayne County Democratic Committee, and Member of Wayne County Habitat Committee.
Mrs. Armstrong loves working with people. She has been married to James Larry Armstrong, retiree of Georgia Power, since 1971. They have a son, Patrick Armstrong, retiree of U.S. Navy, daughter-in-law, Erica, two grandchildren, Nick and Terrell, all of Jacksonville, FL.
